On Sunday, Sept. 16, Middy N’ Me road-tripped down South to celebrate the American Saddlebred Museum’s recent renovation, where we showcased a capsule collection of limited-edition designs that Middy’s founder and designer, Kimberly Barratt, was commissioned to create in honor of the museum’s facelift.
The museum’s Eeta Sachon was charged with raising and rebranding the museum’s profile…so down to Kentucky we trekked with three original skirts, matching tops and accouterment to round out the looks. But what started as the museum’s ask for a few little bits to sell turned into what we dubbed the “American Saddlebred Custom Capsule Collection.”
About The Show
“The collaboration was a long time coming, and it was a real honor to be invited to contribute in that kind of way,” says Kim. As if participating in the museum’s partying wasn’t enough, world-renowned trainer Melissa Moore of Sunrise Stables was the Middy model…which was in a word: dreamy.
With more than 50 world equestrian championships of her own and countless more for horses she’s trained for clients, Moore’s agility in a ring shines as bright as her aura and smiles on the runways and stages she’s graced as a model and actress. (Fun factoid: Days before her Lexington appearance with us, she was modeling for one of our faves: Saks Fifth Avenue!)
“For 30 years I’ve admired Melissa Moore and her career,” says Kim of the esteemed equestrian judge. “To have her model at a place like the American Saddlebred museum: Well…I understand the important place she holds in the equestrian world, and it was delightful to see that she’s just as sweet on the inside as she is beautiful on the outside.”
Next month, Melissa will wear exactly what she modeled for us last week when she judges at the Royal Horse Show next month in Canada.
(FYI: If you missed shopping last week, items are available in the muesum’s gift shop right here, as well as in the museum’s catalogue…while supplies last).
Who Saw Our Capsule Collection
The show’s vibe was typical for a Middy trunk event: Everyone gabbed about clothes and horses.
“We had a lot of Middy N’ Me customers make a special point to visit us,” says Kim…like Susan Santiano and her BFF, Patty. “They ran in saying, ‘oh my God, we’re so glad you’re still here so we could meet you!’ With MIddy N’ Me, it’s always a big-time lovefest.”
…And not just with the girls: Longtime American equine sculpturist Sally McClure Jackson—whose bronze beauty “CH Wild Eyed & Wicked” graces the museum’s grounds at Kentucky Horse Park—was there with her husband, who seemed to be having just as much fun as his bride.
“We have men weigh in on our products all the time,” says Tammy Saccone, Kim’s BFF, her number-one travel companion and maker of the best hot chicken salad ever. (Remember this? GOODness.) “They’re as thrilled as our ladies that Kim’s skirt designs have pockets. No more toting around lipstick!”
(Note to selves, Darlings: #loveislove, and Middy’s surely for everyone.)
