It began with a simple observation at the tack shop: with all the gorgeous fabrics in the world, why were riding shirts so uninspiring? In 2011, Kimberly Barratt decided to change that, envisioning something different—shirts that combined couture-quality tailoring with bold, joyful patterns that express personality.
Shifting the ho-hum market of formal equestrian whites toward bright colors and patterns—unheard of corals, fuchsias and teals, plus ginghams, stripes and dots—her debut at The Chagrin Valley Grand Prix caused a fashion stir. What started as "just a little company making beautiful riding shirts" evolved into something much larger when women discovered these weren't just for the show ring—they were confidence-boosting pieces perfect for country clubs, coastal retreats, steeplechase events, and everywhere in between.
Kimberly's flair for sophisticated whimsy is curated from the life she shares with her husband Tom, their pups (Slipper, Flurry, Olive and Henry), and her beloved horse, Ms. Middleburg "Middy"—the inspiration behind our name. Her passion for color play and respect for everyone's personal shape, and the stitching, structure and nuance of the female form, guide her one desire: creating couture designs that push the envelope of conformity while respecting the classic details that make each piece so special.
